Who Is the One Sending?
A question that surfaces at every sending service.
At sending services we always distinguish between "those who send" and "those who go." It is a convenient division, but one thing keeps troubling me.
In Scripture, the one who sends is always God. The church at Antioch is said to have "sent" Barnabas and Saul, yet the verse just before says the Holy Spirit set them apart.
If so, perhaps what we do is less like sending and more like recognizing someone already sent, and walking them to the door.
The difference looks small but is not. If we are the senders, we start measuring returns. If we are the ones seeing them off, we stay with them to the end.
